edenStudent:  Eden Myer

Program Entry Year:  Fall 2016

Academic Background:  Appalachian State University | Bachelor of Science in Psychology & Human Services

Why APP: "Boone has always been a second home to me. My family used to travel here every other summer to celebrate our Scottish heritage and attend the Highland Games. When it came time to decide where I wanted to go to college, having that connection with Boone made my choice very easy. I also really liked Appalachian's campus better than the other schools I had visited. After graduating, I enjoyed my experience at ASU so much that I decided to apply for graduate school as here as well!"

Why School Counseling:  "I have always had an interest in psychology, and I knew I wanted to pursue a career in a related field. Since I was sure that I didn't want to become a psychologist or psychiatrist, I decided that counseling would be right up my alley. The next decision came down to whether or not I wanted to work in a clinical setting or a school setting. Considering I have always enjoyed working with children and adolescents, I wanted to choose a focus that would allow me to work with this demographic. With this in mind, I was inspired to choose school counseling!"

Fun Fact:  "Music has been a big part of my life since I was in the 6th grade. Since then I have learned how to play the piano, violin, and guitar, and I also specialize in vocals. This interest has led to many exciting experiences, such as the opportunity to sing at NYC's Carnegie Hall during my senior year of high school. I was also a music education major until I decided to hold onto music as a hobby and pursue a degree in psychology."
